Print Specs: What are Registration Marks and Color Bars?
Registration Marks: Registration marks are items used by the pressman to ensure that each color that goes onto the sheet is in perfect alignment. Registration marks are built out of all 4 colors and show up in the exact same place on each plate. Most graphic software will place registration marks on your file for you after you check a box telling it to do so.
Color Bars: The color bar is the band of CMYK squares running along one end of the sheet. The pressman uses this bar to ensure that the color is at the correct opacity and levels. The color bar acts as a known factor that the pressmen can check his color against using a densitometer or spectrophotometer.
